On March 21, the “Lantsang and Mekong River Week” activities in the field of water resources in 2019, co-sponsored by Hohai University, Lantsang River and Mekong River Water Resources Cooperation Center and Nanjing Institute of Hydraulic Research, under the guidance of the National Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Water Resources, The Lantsang River and Mekong River Water Resources Cooperation Youth Forum was held in our school. Liu Zhiguang, director of the National Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Water Resources, Xu Hui, representative of the Mekong River in China, Xu Hui, president of Hohai University, and Li Yun, vice president of the Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, attended the event. The opening ceremony was hosted by Xu Weiya, Vice President of Hohai University. The forum was hosted by Zhong Yong, the director of the Lantsang River and Mekong River Water Resources Cooperation Center.
In his speech, Liu Zhiguang, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Water Resources, expressed his sincere gratitude for the meticulous organization of the organizers and the strong support of the delegates. He pointed out that since the cooperation mechanism between the Lantsang River and the Mekong River was launched for three years, the six countries have actively carried out policy exchanges, continuously strengthened the consensus of cooperation, and coordinated the water resources cooperation between the Lantsang River and the Mekong River to enter a full-term growth period. He emphasized that the Ministry of Water Resources of China attaches great importance to the training of young talents in water conservancy in the Mekong River. Since 2017, the Ministry of Water Resources has been supporting the high-level talent program of the “Silk Road” Chinese government scholarship project jointly organized by Hohai University and the Lantsang River and Mekong River Center, “Cooperation between the Lantsang River and the Mekong River”. Young people in the Mekong River water resources professional field are actively making progress, striving to study professional knowledge, continuously improve their professional quality and business ability, and strive to become a friendly messenger of water resources cooperation between the Lantsang River and the Mekong River.
President Xu Hui gave a welcome speech and introduced the history of HHU, the specific measures to respond to the “Belt and Road” initiative, and the school-running experience of promoting international talent training. He pointed out that the theme of this event is distinct and far-reaching. It is another manifestation of deepening the cooperation between the Lantsang River and the Mekong River and strengthening the foundation of cooperation. It is also a water conservancy cooperation between the Lantsang River and the Mekong River. It is a grand meeting to discuss the growth of young talents. Work together to establish a water destiny community awareness of cross-border water resources cooperation, and jointly make new and greater contributions to enhancing the friendship between the young people in the Lantsang River and the Mekong River, promoting water resources cooperation between the Lantsang River and the Mekong River, and promoting economic and social development in the basin.
The theme of this activity is the cooperation between the youth and the water resources of the Lantsang River and the Mekong River. The participants elaborated on the significance of the cooperation between the Lantsang River and the Mekong River on the water resources around the country and the needs of water resources development and utilization, and expressed the youth’s Mission to serve. Professor Zhang Ke of Hohai University gave a special report on “Science and Technology Recommendations for Safeguarding Water Resources in the Lantsang River-Mekong River Basin”. Ma Tiansong, a graduate student at the College of Hydrology and Water Resources at Hohai University, spoke on behalf of young students from the Mekong River Basin. Youth representatives from universities and research institutes such as Hohai University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Wuhan University, Ministry of Water Resources, Yangtze River WaterResources Commission, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, China International Economic and Technical Exchange Center New achievements and good experiences.
