Sponsored by the Chinese Scholarship Council, Hohai University has organized a group of Chinese Government Scholarship international students to visit Huai’an and Jiangdu in Jiangsu Province recently to attend the “Perceive China—A Canal Epic” culture experience activity. 80 international students of 30 nationalities from Hohai University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and Nanjing Art Institute participated in the activity.
With the theme of “A Canal Epic,” the activity takes introduction to China’s water conservancy projects as its main task. Landmarks including 3 hydropower stations of South-to-North Water Diversion Project (No. 4 station of Huai’an City, and No. 3 and No. 4 stations of Jiangdu City), Huai’an Water Control Project and itsAnlanExhibition Hall, Hexia MillenniumAncient Town, etc. were visited, offering the students chances to study the water conservancy projects, experience hydropower culture and learn about water conservancy economy at short range. The students have learned about the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the long history of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project through this visit, and got more intuitive knowledge of the development of Chinese history, especiallyChinese laboring people’s wisdom and great application in the process of remodeling the nature by connecting the South and the North through water conservancy projects. In a word, this activity has displayed the history, introduced the science and technology, spread the culture and aroused reflections
After the visit, a klatch was held where students expressed how this activity has broaden their horizon, expanded their cultural knowledge and stimulated their study motivation. All the students shew their gratitude to the Chinese Scholarship Council and Hohai University for providing them with such a meaningful experience.
