On September 15, 2010, after nearly a year of trial operation, the Confucius Institute in Alsace, France was officially unveiled.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Francois Los, deputy speaker of the Alsace Region Parliament, said that he was very happy to have a Confucius Institute in Alsace; this cultural exchange organization not only promoted the friendly relations between the Alsace region and the Jiangsu province of China, but also enhanced mutual understanding between the Chinese and French people. He stated that the Alsace Region Parliament would fully support Confucius institute to carry out various activities. Sun Jiwen, the Chinese Consul General in Strasbourg, said that nowadays, strengthening communication among the people of the world is more important than ever before and learning language is a very good way of communication. Therefore, the establishment of the Confucius Institute in Alsace is of great importance.
Confucius Institute in Alsace has been in trial operation since November 2009, and has held several Chinese training classes so far. Also, a number of parties and exhibitions aimed at displaying Chinese culture have been organized in Strasbourg and other cities in Alsace .
Mr.Chen Yue from Hohai University is currently the Chinese Dean of the Confucius Institute in Alsace.
