On October 9th, Hohai University held the 2018 opening ceremony for the International Students of Chinese Government Scholarship and a signing ceremony of Internship Practice Base. Ge Li, deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation and Science and Technology of the Ministry of Water Resources, Ata Uh Rahman, Counsellor of the Pakistani Embassy in China, Counsellor of the Mongolian Embassy in China, Sudsuren Gautuga, Education Counsellor of the Kenyan Embassy in China Ruben Aigutug, Mohamed Eganchord of the Tajikistan Embassy in China, Concomm Duzabayeva of the Kazakhstan Embassy in China, and Yun Li , vice president of the Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, Lixin Zhang, director of the Xiaolangdi Key Water Control Center of the Ministry of Water Resources, Xu Jincai, director of the Rural Electrification Research Institute of the Ministry of Water Resources, Xiangrong Xie, vice president of the Yangtze River Survey Planning and Design Institute, Xiangsheng Luo, deputy director of the Lamnmae Water Resources Cooperation Center, and Yicheng Wang, dean of graduate school of the China Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydroelectric Power Research, Hui Xu, President of Hohai University, and Wei yaXu, Vice President, attended the opening ceremony and signing ceremony. Vice President Weiya Xu presided over the event, and heads of the relevant departments and colleges participated in the event.
In his speech, President Hui Xu extended gratitude to the Ministry of Water Resources, the guests of the signing unit and the diplomatic envoys, and expressed warm welcome to the 2018 freshmen of Chinese government scholarship joining the Hohai family. President Hui Xu reviewed the history of our school’s international education development, introduced the achievements our school had made concerning the “the Belt and Road initiative” in recent years, and the acts and fruits of the construction of world first-class and research-intensive university. He also hoped that international students will be able to uphold the spirit of school motto---being hardworking and plain-living; seeking truth from facts, persisting in strict self-requirements; having the courage to explore---and cherish opportunities, wholeheartedly, and lay a solid foundation for professional researches; bear in mind the mission of promoting the development of domestic technology, apply what is learned to the practice, be bold in innovation and exploration, and develop excellent practical ability; It is our duty to spread friendship, make friends, live in harmony, and build a friendly communication platform.
Ge Li, deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation and Science and Technology of the Ministry of Water Resources, thanked Hohai University and the diplomatic institutions for their support and warmly congratulated the freshmen of international students who won scholarships. Deputy Director Ge Li said that the Chinese government is willing to share advanced water management experience and technology with countries along the “Belt and Road” to promote local economic development and improve people's living standards. At the same time, it was hoped that students will strive to improve their professional level through three years’ study, have a better understanding of Chinese culture, strengthen mutual trust and become bridges connecting China with the “Belt and Road” countries in the field of water resources development.
Ata Uh Rahman, Counsellor of the Pakistani Embassy in China, and Mohamed Eganchord of the Tajik istan Embassy in China, spoke as the representatives of the Chinese embassy. They fully affirmed the great influence of the “ the Belt and Road Initiative” on promoting the economic and social development of countries along the route. They also expressed their gratitude to the strong support of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Water Resources of China and hoped that the students will learn advanced water conservancy technology and engineering management experience at Hohai University, and committed to the technical exchanges between the two countries and the friendship between the two peoples. Xiangsheng Luo, deputy director of the Lamnmae Water Resources Cooperation Center, spoke on behalf of the cooperation unit. Professor Ke Zhang from the School of Hydrology and Water Resources spoke as a teacher representative. Pakistani student Kang Ran spoke as a freshman representative.
After the opening ceremony, the school held the signing ceremony for the international student practice base. Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, Xiaolangdi Key Water Control Center of the Ministry of Water Resources, Rural Electrification Research Institute of the Ministry of Water Resources, Yangtze River Survey Planning and Design Institute, the Lamnmae Water Resources Cooperation Center and six units of the China Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydroelectric Power Research signed an agreement with our school to establish a joint practice base for international students.
In recent years, our school has taken the initiative to adapt to the new situation and new requirements for the opening up of education in the new era, and has concentrated on the “ the Belt and Road Initiative” to focus on water education, water science, water technology and water safety issues in countries and regions along the line, and strive to build a global water education base, water field think tank, water high-end forum and water culture exchange platform. In 2018, our school enrolled 172 Chinese government scholarship students, ranking first in Jiangsu Province, fully reflecting the country's recognition of our school's international education work.
