From April 22 to 24, the 3rd International Forum on Water Security and Sustainability, sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Three Gorges Corporation, Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission, and organized by Yangtze Institute for Conservation and Development, Hohai University, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute and other organizations was held in Nanjing. Tang Hongwu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hohai University and Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Forum, attended the forum; Xu Hui, President of Hohai University and Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Forum served as the host at the event; Zhang Jianyun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of the Yangtze Institute for Conservation and Development, Honorary President of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Forum, delivered an opening speech. This event was held in both online and offline channels, attracting more than 1,000 representatives from relevant watershed institutions, scientific research institutes, universities or colleges, enterprises, the World Meteorological Organization and other international organizations from over 10 countries, including China, the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and Switzerland. Except for the main venue, two video sessions were established at Hohai University and Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, where live broadcasting was conducted and relayed simultaneously by the Xinhua News Agency and other media.

On April 24, Professor Zhu Yuliang from Hohai University convened a special session of the Yangtze River Conservation and Green Development Forum; Professor Zhang Ke, Professor Yu Zhongbo, Professor Hua Zulin and Professor Lu Chunhui from Hohai University organized a parallel session of the Forum. This Forum produced many presentations delivered by professors from Hohai University, including Protection and exploitation efficiency of the Yangtze coast lines by Professor Chen Da, the Transforming and Upgrading the Chemical Industry of Yangtze River by Professor Zhu Xinhua, the Lake-River Interactions in the Middle Yangtze River by Professor Zhang Qi, and the Comparing CMIP5 and CMIP6 Climate Change Simulations and Prediction Results over the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau by Professor Duan Qingyun.
This three-day event with a main forum and sub-forums focused on four themes: integrated watershed management, climate change and risks, water ecosystem and engineering, and water resources conservation and use. This event is reported by China's mainstream media, including Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Online, CNR.com, Xinhua Net, Chinese Social Sciences Network, Jiaohuidian News, Litchi News, Modern Express, and nearly 100 foreign media has successively reported the forum. As of the morning of April 25, the forum live broadcast and the Hohai Experts' Views column have seen a hit rate of over one million.
