Recently, the 3rd International Symposium on Coastal Resources and Environment (CORE2021), with the core topic of Coastal Biogeomorphology and Nature-Based Solutions, was held at Hohai University. Due to the requirements of epidemic prevention and control, it was held in an online-offline manner. Professor Joseph Hun-Wei Lee, Chairman of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) and Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering, and Xu Weiya, Vice President of Hohai University attended and delivered opening speeches.
More than 160 experts and scholars from over 50 research Institutes of nearly 20 countries attended the symposium on-site or online, and the online simulcast of the conference with the ZOOM online meeting room received the attention of nearly 10,000 people from more than 70 countries around the world. A total of 10 invited presentations and 82 presentations in 4 parallel sessions were scheduled. Participating scholars engaged in academic discussions on topics including small-scale physical-biological processes, large-scale estuarine coastal geomorphic evolution, engineering measures, and other research progress frontiers. The experts made a comprehensive evaluation of the academic reports of young scholars and graduate students and selected 14 winners of excellent reports.
The International Symposium on Coastal Resources and Environment (CORE) is an international academic conference initiated by Hohai University, which has been successfully held twice in 2017 and 2018. Sponsored by IAHR, this symposium is co-organized by Hohai University, the University of Edinburgh, Sun Yat-sen University, and University College Dublin, Ireland, and undertaken by State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Coast Ocean Resources Development and Environmental Security, and Jiangsu Society of Oceanology and Limnology, aiming at constructing an open academic exchange platform to jointly discuss the latest scientific research progress in the field of coastal resources and environment, promote the academic cooperation at home and abroad and expand the international influence of the symposium.
