On October 25, 2021, Professor Shahbaz Khan, director of UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office, and consultant Professor Luo Yufeng visited Hohai University. President Xu Hui and Professor Yu Zhongbo, Vice Chairman of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (UNESCO IHP), met with guests.
President Xu extended a warm welcome to Prof. Shahbaz Khan for his visit and introduced the current development of Hohai University in talent cultivation, scientific research and other aspects, as well as its historical origins and cooperation with UNESCO. Xu said that Hohai University has attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with international organizations, especially UNESCO, and has undertaken talent training for international organizations in the field of water resources since the 1970s. Listed in the “Double First-Class” university project and known as China’s first higher institution to cultivate water conservancy talent, the university will carry out international cooperation in the field of water resources under the framework of the UNESCO IHP, contributing to the goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind initiated by President Xi Jinping.
Director Shahbaz Khan highly commended President Xu Hui’s proposal and expressed his gratitude to Hohai University for its support for the work of the UNESCO IHP over the past decades. He pointed out that President Xi’s concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and an ecological civilization is highly consistent with objectives of the UNESCO. As a leading university in teaching and scientific research in the field of water resources in China, UNESCO hopes to incorporate Hohai University into the cooperative network and work with the university to conduct substantive cooperation in the water resources utilization and management as well as ecological civilization construction.
Prof. Yu Zhongbo, Vice Chairman of UNESCO IHP, met with Director Shahbaz Khan for working talks. After the meeting, Director Shahbaz Khan also visited the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering.
Relevant personnel from International Office and State Key Laboratory also attended the meeting.
