On November 18, the Annual General Meeting 2021 of UK-Jiangsu World-Class University Consortium was held online. Nearly 200 representatives from 32 universities in Jiangsu, China and 16 universities in the UK attended the video conference. President Xu Hui also attended the conference and delivered a keynote report.
At the Presidents' Forum of the meeting, Xu Hui, on behalf of universities in Jiangsu, delivered a keynote report entitled Discussion on the Cooperation of Higher Education in Global Climate Change and Sustainable Development. He pointed out that the frequent occurrence of extreme weather events in recent years requires our immediate and concerted response to global climate change. As a key university directly under the Ministry of Education with a specific focus on water conservancy disciplines, Hohai University has made meaningful exploration in scientific research and talent cultivation related to global change, ecological environment governance, and other aspects. Hohai University hopes to strengthen cooperation with other participants in these fields and explore how Chinese and foreign universities can contribute their own efforts to form a joint response to the challenges posed by ecological and climate changes.
In the exchange session of the forum, Xu Hui exchanged views with leaders of relevant universities on how to promote zero greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2019, the British Council, Universities UK, and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education jointly established the UK-Jiangsu World-Class University Consortium, aiming to promote in-depth cooperation between high-level universities in Jiangsu and the UK. As one of its members, Hohai University has carried out active cooperation and exchanges with many British universities in talent training, teacher-student exchanges and co-hosting of international conferences in recent years.
