On December 6, Hohai University convened a seminar on Challenges to and Solutions of the Hydro-Environment Discipline at Universities and led the establishment of the International Academic Network of Hydro-Environment Discipline. Experts from Georgia Institute of Technology (USA), University of Waterloo (Canada), University of Western Australia, University of Oklahoma (USA), University of Arizona (USA), National University of Singapore, and Desert Research Institute (USA) participated in the seminar via video link. Vice President of HHU, Prof. Xu Weiya , attended the seminar and delivered a speech.
Prof. Xu Weiya pointed out that the problems of water resources and environment are ubiquitous in the world, requiring universities to strengthen cooperation to make responses. As a leading university in China in the field of water resources and environment, HHU, together with other universities with significant advantages in this field, has established the International Academic Network of Hydro-Environment Discipline. By doing so, it will create a long-term mechanism for disciplinary cooperation, exploit the advantages of solid basic research and interdisciplinary integration of member universities, promote cooperation and exchanges among world-class universities, and carry out comprehensive multilateral cooperation in high-level personnel training and scientific research on water resources and environment.
The representatives of foreign universities agreed that the establishment of the International Academic Network of Hydro-Environment Discipline is conducive to member universities to help this discipline adapt to new situations, meet new challenges, and achieve new development through extensive exchanges and cooperation. As a result, the member universities will supply top-notch talent with international vision and innovation ability, and provide world-leading technological innovation support for the sustainable development of water resources and environment. The seminar also included a heated discussion among experts on cutting-edge research directions and future forms of cooperation in water resources and environment.
Professor Yu Zhongbo, Chairman of UNESCO-IHP and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering of HHU, attended the seminar and delivered a speech. Personnel from relevant departments attended the seminar and exchanged views with participating experts.
