From November 24 to 25, Prof. Yu Zhongbo chaired the 28th IHP Regional Steering Committee for Asia and the Pacific (RSC-AP) and Catalogue of Hydrological Analysis (CHA) Workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam, with more than 20 countries participating online and offline. He serves as Chairman of UNESCO-IHP Asia and Pacific, Vice Chairman of Chinese National Committee for UNESCO-IHP, and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering.
The meeting provided an introduction to the UNESCO-IHP Strategy and conveyed an update on the IHP Intergovernmental Council's response to the recommendations. At the meeting, the Secretary of IHP RSC reported on the election of the IHP Intergovernmental Council and its Bureau. Subsequently, the host country for the 29th RSC meeting (2022) delivered a speech, which was followed by a discussion on possible host countries for the 30th RSC meeting (2023).
Jiang Haiyan, a scholar from Hohai University, gave a presentation entitled The Operation of Three Gorges Reservoir at Yangtze River Basin in China – A System Dynamics View at the CHA Workshop, and the research results were included in Dam Reservoir Operation for Addressing Water Related Disasters, Water Scarcity and Quality, which is the second volume of the CHA for Asia and the Pacific, a cooperative publication series published by UNESCO and the International Association of Hydrological Sciences.
RSC is not only a high-level forum jointly sponsored by international authorities, but also the intergovernmental cooperation mechanism in the UN System with the theme of water, representing the forefront of international academic research in the field of hydrology.
