On July 19, ShanghaiRanking released Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022. Hohai University's 18 subjects were included in the list. In the number of subjects listed, the university took the 377th and the 43rd places in the world and China respectively. The 14 subjects of universities in Chinese mainland, including Hohai University's Water Resources Engineering, were ranked No. 1 in the list, significantly improving the international influence of the subjects. Hohai University's Marine & Ocean Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Oceanography were among the Global Top 100 subjects. Compared with 2021, the rankings of 15 subjects have risen; the two subjects, namely Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Chemical Engineering, have increased by more than 100; and the two subjects, namely Energy Science & Engineering, and Agricultural Sciences, have been added to the list.
In recent years, the university has aligned with major national strategies and the needs of water governance in the new era, focused on the major national construction projects and the frontier of discipline theory, refined the direction of discipline development, optimized the discipline structure, adjusted the discipline layout, and continuously promoted the connotative development of disciplines. Through tiered category-based efforts such as developing world-class disciplines, advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu Province and key disciplines in Jiangsu Province, and the discipline development action plan, we have strengthened the innovation of key theories and technologies, produced milestone achievements, comprehensively improved the ability of independent innovation, reinforced the commercialization and application of scientific research results, made new breakthroughs in discipline development, and significantly enhanced the international reputation and academic influence of the disciplines, laying a solid foundation for building a world-class characteristic research-oriented university. The university will seize the development opportunity, work to promote the connotation of discipline development, further increase the comprehensive level of disciplines, lead the exploration and innovation of water-related disciplines, and drive other disciplines to jointly improve quality and efficiency, so as to provide strong scientific and technological support and guarantee for ensuring national water security, serving high-quality development and boosting social and economic development.
In ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022, institutions are ranked in 54 subjects across Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences, aiming to provide reference for institutions to evaluate the international competitiveness of disciplines. The Rankings use a range of objective academic indicators to measure the performance of world universities in relevant subjects, including research output, research influence, international collaboration, research quality, and international academic awards.
