On November 1, the Environmental Engineering Sub-forum, as one of the series of the 2023 Jiangsu International Exchange Week on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research & Application, was successfully held in Changzhou New Campus of Hohai University. More than 200 experts, teachers and students from Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Pakistan and other countries attended this Sub-forum. Zheng Jinhai, Vice President of Hohai University, Yu Weidong, Second-level Consultant of the Jiangsu Education Department, and Prof. Roger Falconer, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chair Professor of Yangtze Institute for Conservation and Development, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony of the Sub-forum.

In the Expert Report session, Alidad Amirfazli, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at York University, Philippe Gourbesville, President of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) and former Director of Polytech Nice Sophia, and Guo Youzhi, Director of the Seawater Desalination and Unconventional Water Engineering Research Center of Hohai University, delivered wonderful reports entitled Icing in Our Environment and Surface Engineering Ways for Icing Mitigation, International Training New Paradigm: Needs and Expectations and Current Problems and Countermeasures of Seawater Desalination Utilization in China respectively. Ge Jing, Senior Engineer of the Jiangsu Hongyuan Technology Engineering Co., Ltd., shared the excellent result ofindustry-education-research-application cooperation and integration between universities and industries at home and abroad with attending teachers and students. The presentation is titled Technology Research and Development, and Engineering Practice on Anti-collision Facilities for High-Grade Channel Bridges.
A round-table discussion was set up in the Sub-forum, where five experts from Cardiff University, University of New Brunswick, Hohai University, and Nantong University, along with the host, exchanged their experiences and insights regarding the Integration of Joint Talent Cultivation with Research, Industry, and Application between Chinese and International Universities. They consistently expressed that international industry-education-research-application has injected inexhaustible impetus into global economic development, and the inter-connection of the international talent chain, innovation chain, and industrial chain is of great significance to form a comprehensive, wide-ranging and multi-level pattern of education opening up.
During the Sub-forum, six outstanding achievements were selected to exhibit in the roadshow including Global Hydrological Forecast, Early Warning and Intelligent Analysis Platform, Desktop Upper Limb Rehabilitation Robot and Online Monitoring and Early Warning Technology of Water Quality Spectrum.
After the Sub-forum, some attending experts visited the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the College of Artificial Intelligence and Automation for exchanges.
This year marks the first time for the Jiangsu Education Department to hold the International Exchange Week on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research & Application event. More than 300 representatives, including presidents and academicians from 89 Chinese and foreign universities, as well as leaders from scientific research institutions and enterprises, attended the week-long series of activities. With the theme of International Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application for a Shared Future, the Exchange Week focuses on nine key areas: Jiangsu's economic and social development, including environmental engineering, intelligent manufacturing, health care, atmospheric sciences, energy materials, etc. The event aims to share development opportunities, deepen cooperation and exchange, and jointly build a more globally attractive opening and cooperative ecosystem. Hohai University focuses precisely on national strategies and needs, taking advantage of its superior disciplines. Through the successful holding of this Environmental Engineering Sub-forum, it facilitates the transformation into the paradigm of deep integration of industry, education, research and application, which is of great significance in accelerating the construction of a high-quality education system opening up.
