On November 6, The 4th International Forum on Water Security and Sustainability & 1st IAHR International Conference on Global Water Security, sponsored by International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research,Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, Hohai University and Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, and organized by Yangtze Institute for Conservation and Development, was held in Hohai University, Jintan District, Changzhou City.
Guishan Yang, President of Hohai Univeristy; Sheng Lei, Mayor of Changzhou City; Roger Falconer, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, and Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Former Chairman of IAHR, and Chairman of the Forum Academic Committee; Zhanjun Gao, Director of Department Three of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Xuewen Zhou, Chairman of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, Former Deputy of Ministry of Emergency Management, and Former Vice Minister of Ministry of Water Resources delivered speech respectively.
This conference provided a forum bringing together participants from international organizations such as water resources commissions, academia, universities, enterprises and World Meteorological Organization. This forum consisted of plenary sessions and parallel sessions. On plenary sessions after opening ceremony, 8 outstanding figures gave their lectures. Zhiyu Zhong, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Water Resources, addressed with the topic of Governance and Management on River Basin to Advance High-level Development on Water Resources in New Stage. Annan Wang, Director and General Manager of China South-to-North Water Transfer Group Co., gave a report named South-to-North Water Transfer Project and National Water Security. Philippe Gourbesville, Chairman of IAHR, Vice-Chairman of the Asian Water Council, delivered a speech on Smart water Solutions for Water Security: Challenges & Opportunities. Tandong Yao, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Researcher of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Honorary Director, and Leader of the Second Qinghai-Tibet Scientific Expedition Team addressed about Melting Glaciers with High Intensity and Imbalance of Asian Water Tower. Xinqiang Niu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist of CISPDR Corporation had an invited talk regarding Urban Flood Control Challenges in China under Extreme Climatic Conditions. Mark Fletcher, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, and Fellow of Arup discussed the issue on Water, Sustainable Development, Nature and Climate Change. Dragan Savić, CEO of KWR Water in the Netherlands and Professor of Hydroinformatics at the University of Exeter, UK gave the report about Global Water Security in the Digital Age. Harry Seah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Public Utilities Board of Singapore delivered the speech called Closing in on Answers to Sustainability Issues.
