On December 17, our university hosted the appointment ceremony for Professor Deli Chen, an internationally renowned soil scientist, fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and distinguished professor at the University of Melbourne, as a visiting professor. Guishan Yang, Secretary of the university's Party Committee, attended the ceremony.

Guishan Yang presented the visiting professor appointment certificate to Academician Chen. He emphasized that Academician Chen's appointment marks a significant achievement in the university's Strengthening the University with Talent strategy, providing substantial momentum for discipline development, talent cultivation, and international collaboration. Leveraging Academician Chen's academic leadership and industry influence, the university will further enhance its strengths in watershed geography and focus on critical research areas, including watershed water security, nutrient cycling, and biodiversity conservation. This aims to strengthen systematic innovation and elevate the university's contributions to national food security and ecological civilization development strategies.
Academician Chen stated that he will fully leverage his academic expertise to conduct systematic and in-depth collaborative research with Hohai University in cutting-edge fields, including efficient agricultural nitrogen utilization, soil ecological restoration, and global change response. This partnership aims to strengthen the university's capacity to support national strategic priorities.
Academician Chen serves as Director of both the Australia-China Joint Research Centre and the ARC Research Hub for Innovative Nitrogen Fertilisers and Inhibitors. His extensive research focuses on agricultural nitrogen utilization and its impacts on global food security, environmental sustainability, and climate change. With over 300 SCI publications in prestigious journals, including 《Nature》 and 《Science》, he has been honored with distinctions such as Officer of the Order of Australia and Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America. Academician Chen has previously established productive collaboration with the School of Geography and Remote Sensing at our university.
